Caring when you need it most

“Are you ok Mum?”

When Genevieve’s life was turned upside down she turned to Anglicare. We were able to get her life back on track with practical assistance and counselling.

Genevieve’s life didn’t start well. Her parents abused drugs and they abused her. At 14 she ran away from home and found herself couch surfing until she met Caleb and fell in love.

They married quickly and soon had their first daughter. Life was good and they had a second daughter. Then disaster struck. Caleb was working late one night when a drunk driver hit him on his way home. Caleb never made it home.

Genevieve’s world fell apart. She couldn’t cope with the girls on her own. Bills began to mount up, dishes lay in the sink for days and depression set in.

So, Genevieve came to us and it was here that she met Angie.

Counselling changes lives

Angie was dedicated to Genevieve in a way she had never experienced before.

  1. She started with financial counselling which helped her to create a budget and get control of her money situation.
  2. She arranged parental and family counselling to help Genevieve and the girls to communicate and work together.
  3. For her depression, Angie found a doctor who helped with medication and then, once Genevieve had a grip on the present, they started looking towards the future.
  4. Genevieve had always thought about becoming a florist but had never done anything to pursue it. Angie helped her find a TAFE course and enrol. She’s even encouraged her to follow her lifelong dream and take up surfing.
